Texel Time

Apart from some lovely time with family we also had a few days to ourselves at Texel - some real holiday and relaxing time for just us. It was fabulous. The kids where very happy to be together and have papa and mama around all day and clearly had some recovery time from all the fun family time.

We took them to Ecomare but our spoiled Amercian kids who have seen every Seaworld in the US where finished there reasonably quickly with the basins with fishies and bruinvissen (North Sea small dolphins). Their Dutch is not bad but the lengthy talks where not quite their piece of cake (yet). They loved running around there though, the exhibits and the real looking statues everywhere.

The kids and Duuk did get quite enthusiastic when we got to a seal basin where they actually came up and made lots of noise.

It was lovely to have some time again with the kids.

We also took the kids (by bike) to the Cocksdorp for the market. Lucky for Rick & Kaat we found a 'zweefmolen' too - and surprisingly enough it was free!

We also attended in Den Hoorn de Texelse dag van het Schaap (Texel's day of the sheep). Hard to stay away considering how famous Texel is for its sheep. Rancher Ricky was mighty interested in the shaving & milking and everything else.

We strolled into town for a beer and some poffertjes (with the house & associated shed looked at in the background) and made our way back to the car.

The fair was just finished and some of the sheep where being led away. Rick decided he was going to help.

A week on a Wadden isle is not complete without a trip up the light house so we went all the way to the north end of the island and fueled by more Dutch coffee & apple pie we climbed all 5 the 150+ steps up the light house. Gorgeous views!

And after the climb down they still had energy to race down the dunes to the beach.

We wrapped up the week with a last hour of sand, sea and flying the kite.
