Officially walking

Since this weekend Rick is officially walking. He takes > 5 steps in a row and it happened on more then 1 occasion. Of course we where too late to video any of it so you'll just have to believe us. Instead just some very very cute pics of our already so big little man.
Rick is still a very happy guy but sometimes can look very serious in between all the chatter. KaKaKaKaKa.....Everything is Kakkaa and KaKa.
In this picture he looks a lot like his mom we find, but we usually find pictures of the same day in which he looks a lot like dad....as some of our friends said we shook it up well HaHa!

Tent

Rick has a new tent which till now we only used outside. But since Houston is heating up fast and becoming unbearably humid we decided to set up Rick's tent in the house. (We now understand why houses here need to be so big -;) ).
Anyway, Rick clearly loves the tent and the balls & tunnel that comes with it. As you can see in the pics he is so busy playing with it that there is no time for anything else!
The main game is to get all the balls out of the tent
then come out after the balls
and then bring them back in
and so forth.....

World Cup

To our relief the Football World Cup is NOT very much alive here. We feel for those of you who have been bombarded with news and advertising around it for Months now. We get an occasional add where they are referring to - the biggest Soccer competition of the world - for some BBQ meat or something. There is an occasional article in Magazine - ususally more about why the sport is so big everywhere else, and about what the world cup will do for South Africa....and that is about it.

If you want to see the game you need to find a sportsbar that is willing to open up early on e.g. Monday Morning (1st Holland game) and serve breakfast instead of booz in a stale reeking bar. Not many do.

The World Cup football pool competition at work in my case has 6 participants (the only foreigners in our 80 people group, all of whom apart from me are Brits with Green Cards).

The only one asking me if I am excited and telling me that Holland stands a good chance (don't they always tell us), are the other foreigners we know and the occasional local South American who finds out we are Dutch.

It does not help either that the Americans have been given a negative travell advise fro SA because of some threats from teh other side of the African continent.

If you want to I am sure you can find more Soccer. The sports channels cover other things at the moment but at non-peak hours some previews are on.

I have yet to find a shop though that sells Soccer shirts from the American team. Guess Rick will need to go for his Dutch heritage on this one.....I'll just get him an Astros shirt instead for his American sports pride -;)

Post Cards

Rick got Two postcards early this week. One from each Grandmother on Holiday. Rick loves Postcards. He took one in each fist and crawled the entire floor with them. Then he tried to put them in the Fridge, moving them from one shelf to the next to find the perfect spot only to take them out again as soon as we wanted to close the fridge. Then he used them as a plate for his fruit puffs, dragged them around the room some more, trying to play with his toys without letting go of the cards, before trying to fold them in some amazing new origami creature. He almost forgot at some stage that he cannot quite stand unassisted yet and was puting up both hand above his head with a card in each hand.

The only problem - at that stage it was no longer possible to read what the grandmothers had written....
