Holi - our 2nd
On March 16th it was time for Holi again, our 2nd at Windmills and so by now Rick had a much better idea what awaited him. I also had invited my VP to join, she was over for a business visit and staying the weekend - so why not! Easy enough to buy some extra white t-shirts and powder and water guns (the latter two Anbu quite happily all sourced for us -:)
I know there are some better pictures even then this of it all and us around, but so far we have a very good impression already I think.

Rick was more in it this year on his own but sought the quiet areas of the pitch
The drummers kept us going and got us to dance. They also got a little dirty & wet - despite the fact that they were colorful enough!
Kaat early on got very upset and did not want anyone to do anything to her. Not much later though she happily applied copious amounts of powder to herself

Bangalore Santhe
A Santhe is a fair - with stalls by coops, artists and all sorts of other vendors who travel usually in for these occasions. Often the products are made by some coop or organization who makes sure that the actual labor is paid and not the middleman. Often at a Santhe there is also lots of good music & food.
Since maybe 6 months or so there is a more permanent Santhe established under the major overpass of the subway station. I had driven past plenty of times but never made it out. So with Omarijke here and a spare afternoon we decided to try it out.
Despite the somewhat desolate location the place was very nicely done….but it was also absolutely deserted!
Out of the 30 - 40 stalls available only 5-6 where open. And this was Saturday afternoon!
Duuk said - Mommy what are we doing here! (no bruise, left over face paint on his cheek)
That problem was quickly resolved when we found the lovely open air mini theater. Also deserted but a perfect place for Rick to show us the dance he was rehearsing for the school show and a few other things.
We also actually managed to buy something (for no money at all), and found a 'treasure" - dead and dried out.
So after an hour or so, it was time to go back home and try out the pool instead. It is definitely warming up again here!
What a shame that such a great initiative and nice place is not functioning as it should -:(
5 Star Indian Night
One of our friends manages a hotel here locally. It is quite a fancy place. He has been in India for 7 years (in 3 cities) and has recently left for Korea. There was a huge party to celebrate his move, al very Indian style with lots of street food (fancy style), a horse ride for him, a local brass band and much more fun. The pictures we have are almost all completely unsharp. Nevertheless - some are too good to withhold.
Indian Airspace Closure
One of my friends posted a message on FB:
"Indian airspace closure for experimental flight vehicular launch on 22Mar14"
We are due to take off on our holidays ourselves, by plane….so a little panic. Considering planes are already just disappearing, nobody is in the best mood to fly.
The good news is that my friend seems to think this airspace closure is only from 11am till 4pm. Valid for all - really all? - of India. Our flight is at a horrible 4:15 am (not nice with 3 kids!), but all of the sudden not bad if the alternatives would have been later in the day.
The worrying thing, after 30 min gouging in tandem, we cannot find any news about any of this……
what will they experiment with?
Coincidence that the Nuclear top is about to start in our home town?
I am really starting to be more and more like Eelco. Believing in all sorts of conspiracy theories.
When the packing finally is done, and if I get 60min sleep before we have to leave? I will try to dream about the rental home owners descriptions off the cheese shop, the boulangerie and all the other nice local stores instead.
Charity Bash
Just to make you believe all prejudices on expat life are true -;)
We went to a charity bash last Saturday. We had a very busy weekend and so where just very happy to show up, on time, in theme, together. There was a charity & there were raffle tickets. The main thing - there were friends and we had a lot of fun.
Oh yes - they ran out of beer, and wine, and so we ordered Mojito's, but then there was more beer after all….Yes it is a hard life - not -:)
We had lots of 'professional' pictures taken - but no idea where these are used or will appear. Ours were mainly out of focus, somewhat dubious and with lots of big grins.
