Despite the Hill Country being more bearable ten most of texas at this time of year it was still Hot Hot Hot. So after spending the morning in the pool we decided that we maybe where 'cool' enough to venture out and meet some snakes at the snake farm.
Both kids loved it and fortunately most of the snakes where kept inside in an airconditioned hall. Kaat still has only a limited grasp of fear and was curious but not scared at all.
Eelco and I hated the sight of al the huge & ugly spiders and smaller snakes that live in Texas and being reminded that they ca be everywhere, anywhere and very scary and poisonous
The place also had a raft of smaller animals outside. Which was nice too but in some cases, as Kaat demonstrates here, a little extra smelly in the heat!
There also was a small petting zoo with some pretty bully-ish goats that scared of Rick big time. We had a bit of a scene after we let some escape by accident and hence they got close to Rick. After that was resolved though all was ok and Rick was helping us re-enact his fears and what he did after making all of us including himself laugh.
Before we left they got one of the larger snakes out of its cage and we got to touch it.
Rick can tell you all about snakes and hence was a little more weary then Kaat who tried to squeeze it enthusiastically.
So Rick helped the lady explain to Kaat the '2 fingers only touch' methodology.
By then we where too hot & sweaty again to make it back to the house in one stretch so we stopped off at the old fashioned creamery in Gruene for some ice cream.
No matter how often we try to explain it - this is really what you get when you ask for the smallest kids ice cream they have.
No issue for our kids as you can see - 2/3 in their mouth and 1/3 everywhere else and we are done!
Time to get back to the house & back to the pool (and the resident deers).
